Speaker 1:

Hey you guys, welcome to Just the Two of Us. It is your broadcast host, mr Zach, so I want you to relax, put your feet up, grab your glass of wine and a snack, because you are tuning into my broadcast. See you later.

Speaker 2:

Hey you guys. It's Mr Zachary. I just wanted to just two of us broadcast. We're here at the Black Expo, where the Black is the excellent. I'm a long way so who we are and where we are at the same right now. So my name is Natasha Jackson. I'm born and raised in South Carolina. Ok, my business right now is Wicked. Miss Candles, I'm also an advocate for pregnant women on the job.

Speaker 3:

I recently helped pass the bill while Biden was in office.

Speaker 2:

Okay, you were in the office.

Speaker 3:

Yes, to prevent women from being fired on the job just because they're pregnant. You're also able to have simple accommodations like having a bottle of water on the workflow. Okay, I started Wicked Miss Candles, because I suffered with real bad anxiety and depression. And after having a scary moment of taking some antidepressants and my heart stopping, I decided that I needed to do alternative methods in order to heal myself.

Speaker 2:

This is how Wicked Miss was created, so I started healing myself with self--care products, meditation and just taking care of myself in general, healing childhood trauma and using these products help me do that. So how can these candles help in different products that you have to help?

Speaker 3:

so different scents and two different emotions so one of the top salads is lavender. It's a helps you relax, it helps you to calm. I carry rose water in my purse Anytime, even an event like this, your giant team might raise a little bit. I miss my face. I take a deep breath, I talk to myself with some positive affirmations and I keep it going.

Speaker 2:

So I just wanted to create products that help other people do the same. All right, so as you start, how long have you been doing this business? All right, so as you start, how long have you been doing this business? So, this business has been open for three years. Three years, okay. I've been on this air to a journey, using the products prior to opening an outfit, for 10 years, okay. So let's start to numbers. So how much did you sell for the first year? For the first year? I, first year, I made, uh, 36 bucks. That's not too bad. I'm telling you that is not too bad. So what advice can you give somebody who wants to start their own company? The main advice that I give somebody who want to start their own company is just start. You have to start somewhere, and for me, I could have started years ago. My fear was holding me back. So the advice that I can give is don't fear is a lion.

Speaker 3:

Don't let the fear talk you out from going after your dream, if God put it in your mind, then that means that you can do it.

Speaker 2:

So just start and don't be afraid, just start, just start, listen. She said just start, don't be scared, just start. Listen, she said just start, don't be scared, I won't take no just start so my my last question to you. I ask all the people who are out here what does black excellence mean to you? Black excellence means to me is just being a setting example and making sure that you are giving back to your community and making sure that you are being a role model for those around what's leading the?

Speaker 2:

I like that. And then how can you find you on social media? So, on social media, everything is at Wicked, miss at Wicked.

Speaker 3:

Miss Candles, as only for.

Speaker 2:

TikTok, but at Wicked Miss on Instagram and Facebook. And where can you find you on your social media? Definitely you on that social media I see so pretty much it's loud. Follow me on YouTube at it's loud media. That's the handle, but loud media is what you find me. Okay, like I said, if you are not here, then where are you? Come to the table, get you some candle Shop, shop, shop, very affordable. Come on, get you some candle. Yeah, come get shop, shop, shop, and we're very affordable. Come on through, we're good. Thank you, thank you. People need to. If they want to come here right now and get tested, what do they have to do?

Speaker 6:

They just get in the line. What we'll do is we'll check their vital signs, we'll assess the risk for kidney disease. We ask them urine, because the urine gets a lot of information what's happening to their kidneys. And then they come through the lens where you have a bunch of doctor experts, get some counseling, they'll get a gift bag, they get to spin the wheel. It's just a lot of good fun while they're getting their kidneys checked out so how long, how long have you been in this experience?

Speaker 2:

you know, in this epitome?

Speaker 6:

I have been a kidney doctor for in the 20 years. This is our fifth year doing this. Okay, and how does this is from last to this. This year we're getting more people. I think the pass court is really helping. Passport used to get five screens ours. Well, if you check out three of the five here and they get to, uh, get a chance to do a raft.

Speaker 2:

Hey, so any advice you can give them it's like sugar test is very important.

Speaker 6:

Yes, anybody High blood pressure, diabetes, family history Should definitely get tested.

Speaker 2:

Alright, where can I find this? On social media Online?

Speaker 6:

Yes, there are a lot of videos out About chronic kidney disease can find this on social media online. There are a lot of videos out about chronic kidney disease. You just have to go into YouTube and see. International Society of Diabetes has a patient out there. National Foundation has a patient out there. It's all out there. Speaker 2:

And if you're not doing it, please be prepared to get tested. It's right in your house. Either the picture or my picture. Welcome, thank you. You could burn another crab pie against us, but I don't want to teach my friend no shit against somebody else.

Speaker 2:

So what advice would you give somebody who want to start their own business? Just do it. Don't be nervous about it. Just step out on faith and just do it. I was nervous about it and God just opened the door for me and it just happened. So just get out there. You don't have to grind hard. It's not going to be easy, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Captain Al-Dali, chelsea County Sheriff's Office. Good to be engaged. So how are you feeling today? I feel outstanding, I feel amazing, I feel phenomenal. So what is the point of this event, mike, today? Well, it's to get the information out to people.

Speaker 5:

Don't be into the black expo In particular, see what people have to say Such social services. But once it's born in Cheryl's office, we want to make young people feel at home. We just deputized three young people. It came through. Okay, oh, absolutely, we're not all together, but we're all together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together, we're together.

Speaker 2:

We're not chatting, we're crossing the line and the type of move I want to make.

Speaker 5:

please make it right in this community and get more information out.

Speaker 2:

Positive. So what's the point of being safe? What's the whole point of being safe? I want people to be safe.

Speaker 5:

I want people to be safe. Keep the seatbelt on, Don't text while driving. My goodness, we're parking a lot of big surroundings. It's a simple issue. I would tell my wife talk to the girl. I don't know why. I don't know why. I don't know why. I don't know why. I don't know why.

Speaker 2:

I don't know why. I don't know why. I don't know why. I don't know why, I don't know why. Position right now, the position who wants to judge this position? Law enforcement. It's a journey If they think we're so inclined to be part of law enforcement. Please send me a phone number. This is Allen Ali, our national contactor. I'm the only Ali. I'm not hard to find, but if anything, you'll find out that just being part long rules of one of these little communities, by the way, but Clarence, you are not.

Speaker 5:

That's it. You're all negative, I'm not negative, I'm not negative, I'm not negative. I say all those things because not only have I been there, I've been there a day.

Speaker 2:

Yes, sir, I've traveled throughout Chelsea County so I'd be out of the game. I'm proud of what you're doing. I'm happy for you to come down to the.

Speaker 7:

All right, you're here for the best. I hope you come out and join us at the Black Expo. Thank you, I'm here at the Black Expo. My name is Zachary Williams. So who are we? Who are we all about at this table? Okay, my name is Shanita Vanish and I'm the founding president and CEO of Crystal Ray, charleston High School. We are the 42nd Crystal Ray High School in the United States and we will be opening our doors in August of 2026.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so what's the meaning behind this iSchool, because I never heard it before. Well, we're new to the Charleston area, so that's why we're very excited. This is my first event. I actually just started on Monday and I'm here to get the news out about it. So we are a private Catholic iSchool that provides scholarships to every one of our students, and our goal is to make sure that our students come in and get prepared to go to college, because 100% of our students will be accepted to college and we will help them find financial support to get through college. And what's the point of getting your degree? Why is it so important for students to go to college?

Speaker 2:

Well, you know, there's a lot of ways to make money, but the research shows that oftentimes people who have a degree, a college degree or some college experience actually make more money over their lifetime, and so we just want to give people the resources that they need just to be successful in life. Hey, any advice would you give to somebody who wants to go here? I would just say come to our website, you know, call me. My number is on our business cards and I'll give it here. It's 843-499-4138. That is my direct number. We want people who are passionate about education. We want people who want to make a difference. And let me tell you one thing that I didn't talk about is that we have a corporate work-study program. That means each one of our students will be given a job at one of the corporations throughout Charleston during their high school time. So not only will they get a high school experience, but they will also get relevant work-life experience as well. And many of these businesses will employ our young people over the summer as well. And many of these businesses will employ our young people over the summer as well. And these corporations are what make it possible for our kids to go to school at little, to no cost. Well, guys, if you're looking for a high school to send your child to, this is the right place to go to. Yes, it is Connection. Yes, thank you so much. And where can we find you all? So you can find us on the web crystalraycharlestonorg. Thank you so much. And where can we find you all? So you can find us on the web crystalraycharlestonorg. Thank you so much, and I hope you have a nice day. See you.

Speaker 2:

This is Brandy from Post-It-Zoo. So, brandy, tell me about your table. Well, we are Post-It-Zoo. We've been around since 2021. We specialize in our crab pies and our crab cupcakes. Yes, it's made with real crab meat and it sits inside of a buttery-flavored pie crust topped with shredded cheese. Our product is available in Pick Moogly Deli's, latsin Otranto, monk's Corner and Hannah Head.

Speaker 2:

You make me want to have a fatback. You make me want to have a fatback with you, girl. So how long was you coming here at the venue? This is our second year at the Black Expo. Oh, okay, and how's the experience for you? Awesome, yeah, last year we sold out. Yeah, it was a great experience, yes, so what set your business apart from the other competition?

Speaker 2:

We don't know what doing this. We don't know what. Doing this and I'm going to you can burn another crab pie against us. I'm going to teach my friend let's shoot against somebody else.

Speaker 2:

So what advice will you give somebody who wants to start their own business? Just do it, don't be nervous about it. Just step out on faith and just do it. I Just do it. Don't be nervous about it. Just step out on faith and just do it. I was nervous about it and God just opened the door for me and it just happened. So just get out there. You don't have to grind hard. It's not going to be easy, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Speaker 2:

So my last question for you what does Black Excellence mean to you? Ooh, honey, a lot of things Power, just our people, just being creative. We're amazing, we're unique. So how can we find your business on social media or anywhere else? Follow us at Curbs Cup of Zoom Crab Pies on Instagram and Facebook. Like I said, our product is located in Picking Whitney's Deli, lattin, otranto, hannah Hanna and Mos Corner. Okay, so y'all can look the store and see yeah, love the pig. If you're not here, listen, I'm telling you she gonna give you a sad day. It's a food good problem. Come look for samples. Thank you so much. My name is Zachary. I'm here at the Black Expo. If you're not here, where are you? So who I'm here with today? Come on in.

Speaker 5:

My name is Aaron Drummond.

Speaker 2:

I'm a local artist here in Charlotte. Okay, and tell me about your artistry.

Speaker 5:

So I have been doing some form of art. Well, I've been doing art for 20 years. I started off doing abstract art, then my father passed away and I went in to be a representative of what I could tell some of these stories. You fast forward and I learned how to do street grass fast and total and started incorporating radiance on my work. And that is what those people know.

Speaker 2:

Now you know, street grass isley is the Bruton Charleston. So what makes you different from the rest of us?

Speaker 5:

So you know I started working and doing artwork that documents and preserves in my time managing it. I managed that space for 16 years. They specialized in not only Gullah artwork but African American artists from all over the state and that's what really started me wanting to document the preservation of the real adventure in my work.

Speaker 2:

Okay, and how long have you been coming through this event?

Speaker 5:

So this is my first time actually being a vendor at Black Charleston, but I've left and attended in years past, over the past six years.

Speaker 2:

So what makes this different from the rest of them?

Speaker 5:

What makes it different is the fact that I am here showcasing my work to a little small business owner, telling people about the new space that I'm offering called Drum House Studio Gallery, and it's going to be a place where I can not only create my work and showcase it, but let other artists showcase their work as well.

Speaker 2:

You can go to Instagram and follow Drum and Studio Gallery and you can follow along and see how that project unfolds. So my last question for you is what does Black Excellence mean to you? Black Excellence means to me representation. Black Excellence means to me representation. Black excellence means to me a suit at the table. Black excellence means to me creating opportunities so that we don't have to wait on someone else to get things done. If you're not here, what are you? You should be coming to this paper, check out his artwork and, once again, where can we find you on social media? You should be coming to the table, check out his artwork and, once again, where can we find you on social media? You can find my artwork at Drummond Aaron Drummond Studios.

Speaker 5:

So they are you in and you can find information about my upcoming opening gallery space, which is that Drummond Studio Gallery.

Speaker 2:

All right, If you're not here, then join us to come out, man, have fun. Connect Black Artistry. Man, Thank y'all so much. We're out here at the Black Expo and if you're not here, then where are you at? Man, Listen, there's a lot of Black-owned business out here and once again, I am here with the only business out here I'm interviewing the first time this is my second time interviewing this person who we got here today? We have Antoine with PJ's for Airbnb, and so, Antoine, how are you joining man? I'm doing good.

Speaker 5:

Everything's going well. I'm joining myself, so everything's up and up right now.

Speaker 2:

So how long you been doing this business again.

Speaker 5:

So the idea of the business was like in 2021, and so launched August last year, 2024.

Speaker 2:

So what set you from the different business that is out there, like competition wise In the world or with that black expo, both?

Speaker 5:

All right, so one we are unique in our own way, as we sell kids' pajamas right, and so it was like okay, there's a lot of kids' pajamas.

Speaker 5:

In Walmart, Target you can find them. But the thing that makes us very unique is that we have black characters. All the time when you go to the stores you don't see black characters. You see the toy trucks, you see the ballerinas, you see old Disney characters and stuff like that, but we hardly ever see black and brown characters, and so that's kind of what makes that stands out. And as far as my competition, I would look at the competition and you see, like playing style pajamas, If you look at our illustrations, we're very detailed.

Speaker 2:

A lot of you know that's what sets us out. So I think that's kind of what put us over the edge a little bit.

Speaker 5:

And then our creativity. I have my two daughters who come and give me ideas. We come up with our own character names this is Supernova, this is Lunar, this is Solas, this is Infinity Walker, and so we have a storyline behind each character, and we have an online store too sell lost pajamas for kids.

Speaker 2:

Okay, let's tell y'all. Let me say, these black characters look kind of good. I'm telling no lie, like it's different than what I'm seeing, all right. So my last question is to you what is black excellence new to you?

Speaker 5:

that's a great question. So black excellence means that, um, especially in times we live in right now, it's a community that works together. I'm saying black excellence is what you see here of individuals starting their business, going in the excellent way, being professional and circulating that money inside the black community. That's what black excellence looks like to me, especially the support level. That's what Black Lives Matter looks like to me, especially the support level. We go back to the 1960s, 1970s. We were one, we were a community, and if we can model that today, we can go far.

Speaker 2:

And how can we find you on social media or any?

Speaker 5:

other way. All right, so you can find us on Instagram at PJS the number four. We'll letter you and me. Facebook PJS for you and me. Fan base we have fan base at PJS number four for you and me and TikTok PJS the number four for you and me. And if you want to reach us out, pjs YM at youduncom. That's how you find us.

Speaker 2:

All right, if you're still here, come check out the table. That's it. It's pajamas, man, it's snuggle. You're sleeping in there. You're sleeping, okay. Thank you all for coming. Thank you, Thank you. This is Mac and Rachel. Man, I am with Just you Watch Broadcast. I am here at the Black Expo and it's very, very, very busy at the moment. And listen, if you're not here, then where are you? I'm at this lovely, lovely table and you know what?

Speaker 3:

today, Hi, my name is Ryan Johnson. I'm a nurse practitioner with Long Tranquility. Okay, tell me a lot about this table. So we are, or I am, a mental health nurse practitioner and I provide services for ages 5 and up. We treat a multitude of diagnoses, from depression, anxiety, insomnia, ADHD. We offer very robust services. We offer weekend hours, evening hours and we're just trying to reach as many people as we can. We accept just about every insurance. We accept Medicare, Medicaid and a lot of commercial insurances as well.

Speaker 2:

Okay, how long this business was doing this. At the last moment.

Speaker 3:

So we have been well. We're coming up on a year, okay, in July, all right, All right, and so are you having fun at the.

Speaker 2:

We're coming up on a year, okay, july, all right, all right, and so are you having fun at the events.

Speaker 3:

I'm having a blast. I'm meeting a lot of people, definitely doing some networking, so it's been a great time.

Speaker 2:

Well, where can we find y'all? On social media or any website we can find y'all on.

Speaker 3:

So we are located at Love Tranquility on Instagram and Facebook, and then the website is lawoftranquilitycom.

Speaker 2:

So how is it important to get checked out?

Speaker 3:

It is very important. Mental health is extremely important. We often think of the physical, but the mental can really take a toll on us more than anything else. Even if you don't feel like you desire or require, at least get some options to see if you can deal with it better. We definitely don't try to push medications to dyslexic core and we let the patient decide.

Speaker 2:

Alright, if you're not here and you need to come at the cell with Chip. Ms Nelson is very important, check it out. Have a nice day. Thanks, and that's the boy, mr Zachary On his ones and two. We are here at the Black Expo. Who I have with here today? This is Dorothy Jenkins.

Speaker 2:

I'm president of the NAACP Charleston branch, downtown. Okay, what does that stand for People who doesn't know what that means? The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. It was started in 1908, and our branch in particular was started in 1917. We've been working for hundreds of years trying to advance our good people when it comes to wages, housing, health, education and anything else that pertains to the Black community.

Speaker 2:

Okay, and so how is choice of being at the event means to you? It means informing them about issues that are pertinent to us in our community. Getting membership so that we can have people unified to organize, mobilize and strategize to change the things that are going on, because, unfortunately, the president that we have in office right now is not working for the advancement of college people. Okay, and what does Black excellence mean to you and the organization as a whole? What does Black excellence mean? Excellence We've always been excellent. We are the standard that they go by, because black people have been the first in everything that we do. We are the alpha and they are the negative, absolutely, and so we want to make sure that our voices are heard, our history is known, so that they can understand where we came from and whose we are. The Most High has blessed us from all sides.

Speaker 2:

And we have to make sure we claim the victory, because that is ours, and thank you. And how can people sign up? If they want to join us, you can go to the nnacpwebsiteorg and that's one way that you can do it. If they come here to the Black Expo, I'll be here most of the day. We have my counterpart here, charles Graham, who's in charge of labor and industry, and he will be here as well. All right, thank you so much. Any advice you would give us, our young people? If you do not live in the Charleston area, I would advise you to get in touch with the branch president and your vicinity. It is important that we put all hands on deck. We have no time to be playing around. The executive orders that this president is writing is impacting every fiber of our life Finance, health, education and our house. We need to work together, mobilize, organize, strategize. Well, thank you, you heard it at your best. If you're not here at the NWACP table, you can sign up. It's very important that you sign up at the table. Thank you so much. You are welcome. Get on top of your game. Hey, hey, it is your, mr Zachary Williams. We are here at the Black Expo and if you're not here, then where are you? I'm going to ask this lovely table and who to see what's with right now.

Speaker 2:

Shatika has a financial solution, so leave, I'll be retired before you expire. So if that's what you desire, what you aspire, we are the ones that you hire. Our goal really is to get your bank account on fire, but they hold on a lifetime tax-free retirement income that you will not outlive. Oh damn. So that's what I'm just doing, you know what? Because I want to say I'm going to retire early, absolutely. You got to make sure that you retire early. That piece of my financial security. Retirement is not an age, retirement is an income. There we go. So what's the point of this whole entire event for this company? Say that again. What's the point of those whole type of business company? Why is it very important to y'all?

Speaker 2:

It's super important that we come out and be at the expo because it has so much to offer business owners and people that are business owners that is looking for more information. Maybe you're someone that understand that you got to get on the right side of money by becoming a business owner, so you're already looking out for the leaders that you need to do to be successful when you become that business owner. So what advice can you give to people who are willing to retire early but don't know how to financially retire early? They don't know how to financially retire early. They need to come to one of my sessions, they need to take some webinar, they need to educate themselves, because the biggest reason why people don't retire early is because they don't have the information or they're not executing the information once they receive it. So first, I would say, is financial literacy and educating themselves, and then putting a good, solid retirement plan in place with solutions to the problems that they may be having. Okay, and what advice would you give somebody who wants to start their own business? I would say, if you want to start your own business, you definitely need to be out here at the Black Expo and these types of environments meeting other individuals already for the business right so you can learn from them. Get into those groups, get into those rooms, because those rooms are going to help you expand your knowledge, get you in position to start asking the right questions so that you can know how to flow it when you get ready for your business See, the people in the back ain't heard you See ready for your business.

Speaker 2:

See, the people in the back ain't heard you. See, the people in the back ain't heard you girl. They ain't heard that one. I hear that. They ain't heard that one. Put that again, girl.

Speaker 3:

I need to say that again. I'm not just saying that, I'm just saying that Okay.

Speaker 2:

No, but seriously, if you are trying to become a business owner, you need to already making the money so that you could ask some questions, and you should be at. We got ChatGPT. Just go to ChatGPT and ask ChatGPT. I got X, my idea. What questions should I be asking?

Speaker 2:

You really have to think as hard as you used to have to think with all this AI that's around you so you can literally open up a business flawlessly without having to use all the brain cells. Where to do that? At Listen, I'm telling you. People don't know how to. It's very simple, but you have to put in the work behind it. Yes, sir.

Speaker 2:

So where can people find you? On social media, you can find this organization also. Absolutely, I'm primarily going to be on LinkedIn or Instagram. Speaker 2:

You got a network inside. You got a channel inside. The network inside is meant to get to the fifth star. It's meant to partner with two, and when they partner with two, it's meant to get you to the end of your life. So how long have you been doing this? I've been doing this for a year and a half. So after the end of the year it starts to get. So, as a Yandere and as a beginner, what are your expectations of other people who want to keep it? Most people who want to do this like, present it, perform it to this kids. We get a lot of people that like to travel. We get a lot of people that like to travel and like trip travel and win. So a travel guide is basically where you can book travel and make a commission of the travel, whether you're working it for yourself or your friends or your colleagues or whoever. Let's talk about numbers now. How much did you make your first time going in? My first time booking the trip, I made $275.

Speaker 7:

It took me about 10 minutes to book the trip Okay.

Speaker 2:

What was the good and bad that you learned from the experience? I wasn't necessarily saying I had any bad experiences. I dealt with a good coach, and a good coach was just him. So when it was my time to get the book, get the trip together.

Speaker 7:

I had everything I needed, so everything really fell in place for me.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so last thing for you. What does Black Excellence mean to you, black, Excellence means to me motivation.

Speaker 7:

That's what Black Excellence means to me motivation.

Speaker 5:

That's why I like the monolith thing.

Speaker 5:

Ooh Chief Godfrey Gullah Jack.

Speaker 2:

Ooh, Chief Nod, tell me about yourself.

Speaker 5:

I am the tour guide. Charleston is the number one city in the world for tourism.

Speaker 2:

Hmm. History Number one in the whole world for history.

Speaker 5:

Well, number one for history. Where does Charleston's history? There we go. They only talk about slavery. Charleston King.

Speaker 7:

Charles, when he came, he certainly enslaved us?

Speaker 5:

He sure did, but we did not begin as slaves.

Speaker 2:

So there's a whole lot more to our history other than just slave. So tell me a little bit about Gitche Gala. Yeah, there it is, gala Gitche. We are the people that originated right here. The slave ship didn't bring us Slavery, didn't. Brokenness didn't bring us here. They call us a Benya Because we've been here. We call us a binya Because we've been here. Before the steel airships came, you had these black American indigenous aboriginal.

Speaker 2:

Indians, the pyramid builders, the gods that created all of the greatest buildings. We had a flowing land of milk and honey. Right y'all, right y'all. This is it. The Gullah people are the pyramid builders, the best architects in the world.

Speaker 7:

They design the buildings, they build the buildings All of the inventions that you see they come from you and me.

Speaker 2:

Our blood ain't nothing regular, you know, ain't nothing Super special we are. If you ain't here, where you at, you're not here. So what does Black excellence is realizing that you are the gods of this earth, black excellence is when Jack wakes up from that broken crown and returns right back to the tip of that hill Because he ought to rest. Black excellence is being who you are. You're an absolute image. Get out there. We found you. We found you On any other place that we're on.

Y'all have been traveling all over the world and she got her daughter here. Come here, yeah, come here, come here. You got your daughter here too. Let's go.

Speaker 2:

That's your daughter here too. Yeah, that's who we are. So y'all volunteering Like y'all enjoying the spirit. This is really a great whole week and really Black Heads Bowl Just much of what our culture is, and our culture is not just a white thing or era.

Speaker 5:

There's so many things that Black Expo will be. That was may not even know that's right here in New York.

Speaker 2:

So I definitely think that's right here in New York.

Speaker 3:

So I definitely think it's great and it's awesome.

Speaker 2:

What she said, no, okay. So for you, miss man, as you're being young and as you see although you know, I would say, all the older adults here are you connecting with people out here I am to see how like they're going and see how like what they want for people and how they want people for like for the expectations and for like for them to share like, hey, you've been doing this for a long time so I like, I like stuff like this because that makes you express what we've been doing for a long time.

Speaker 2:

So to y'all, what does Black Excellence mean? To y'all, black Excellence means Jesus. It's interesting that I can go out of that established world.

Speaker 2:

When you talk about Black, you talk about black you talk about, the color is called Negro. But the color Negro, it doesn't always something to attribute it to a a bad or something that's that's not right or a wild color. You get that a wild color, but in all reality black is a sort of black is a startle. Black is a startle when you go in something and you start now and you take everything and you take the red, the white and the startle, it starts out black and then she wounds it, which would be.

Speaker 2:

and then you say excellent, she's talking about some red and I'm like I'm not talking about that. And so when talking about some red and I'm not talking about and certainly when you put the two words together you say black experts, I'm talking about some green. Title as a whole, thank you. So what can we find both of y'all on social media? Yes, I am Ashley Hale on Facebook, instagram. I am also on TikTok and Olivia. You are on TikTok under Olivia, if that's sure three.

Speaker 2:

And I'm going to tell you one thing about this girl Mufali. This girl is finding herself, especially when she's in church and nobody paying her attention, and this dude is being all oh, listen, you are finding. I'm telling you you are going to do so much things in life. Listen, just keep doing you and be loving. Thank you, welcome, baby girl. Thank y'all and hope we are joining. Like I said, if you're not here where y'all at, we're not. Where you at, we're here. Thank y'all so much, sir. Now, if you're not here, where would you be? Hey, this is your boy, mr Zachary, on his, on his ones. And so we are here at the X Flow, let's say. I see a lot of connections, a lot of people making out here and there's different things. It's how I'm at right now. It's all about art and I see it's all about black people. Let's sing so. Who have?

Speaker 7:

to hear today y'all here with Mel Davis, mel Davis, um, I am, I am the artist.

Speaker 2:

Thank you so much for coming by so tell me about the artwork behind these different paintings, like what makes you think, like what's the idea behind this bit?

Speaker 7:

art is an emotional context, so what you feel is what you see, and what you see is what you do. And art is a world that we can see it in different genre. For, for example, if I saw an apple, right, but that as an artist, they have to force you to draw the apple, you might not be a person that like to draw an apple. You might be a visual person that like to draw people, which I'm a visual artist. Okay, so what you're seeing is my visual work. So that's why you got James Brown, you got Muhammad Ali, you got Lady Singer Blues and you got all these things out there. You are nice to be honest with you, thank you.

Speaker 2:

I'm telling you, I'm a poet, ok, so from the artworks and just hearing people do what they do the mind, step behind these artworks and you have visuals. So that's a next level thing. So how long do it take you to paint one of these pictures?

Speaker 7:

Well, painting is like making a cake, if you will, because you say poetry. Poetry is like the same concept. So when you're in the mode of developing your craft, it's not a time frame. So in some cases it would take you weeks, months, right? In some cases it would take you almost a half a year. It does so we call it birthing. So you birth a talent, a gift that God is giving you. So you have to be in a space, in a quiet space, to bring those for instance. And that's the definition of the word masterpiece, because it can't be repeated, it's only done once.

Speaker 2:

So my last question for you, sure, and so what does black excellence mean to you?

Speaker 7:

Black excellence is endless.

Speaker 2:

I like that that is different From what I heard. So I like that that is different from what I heard. So much Like that. One is like, just like by itself, it's just endless, it's endless. So how can we find you like on social media or any place? Anybody want to look.

Speaker 7:

I go live on TikTok, 630 Eastern no. 830 Eastern Time Monday through Friday. And to go to my website it's mellowartscom. 6.30 Eastern no. 8.30 Eastern time Monday through Friday. And to go to my website is MellowArtscom, that's M-E-L-L-O-W-A-R-T-Scom.

Speaker 2:

Well, thank you so much, and thank you just for creating the space for other people. Who's going to come out? Thank you, and if you're not here at the table, come look at this artwork. It is beautiful. I'm telling you. You heard it before. Like, if you're not here then I'm not. Thank you so much.

Speaker 7:

We have everything that you need, yes, so let's talk about this. Yes, yes, yes. Honestly, it was just the love of baking. It was always a hobby. And then I was like, okay, I'm not really taking this serious, I'm working full time. And then the orders started coming in and so we had to bake it. We had to make it a business. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Come on big bags. Now you're in, this five years is going to be bigger and better.

Speaker 2:

We're looking towards having a brick and mortar. We're looking towards having a brick and mortar. We're looking towards having a food shop. We're looking towards bigger and better events, just getting the word out there and letting people know about Sugar and Soul Bakery. It means power, it means standing firm in your beliefs and never taking no for an answer. I'm proud of my black skin. Okay, if you're not here, we got all. We got toys, we got AM, we got my whole party a lot of things. If you're not here, where you at? So Christian, where can we find you at?

Speaker 4:

I will win water through the valley and I'll find my way, and that it made my way. I have prayed, I have pleaded, but the night won't turn today. Every tear, I hold it closely, like a weight I cannot bear and I wonder, lord, are you near me? Do you hear me? Are you there? I've lost too much, I've fallen hard. I don't know how to stand. I reach for you, but the silence stays. Tears are falling in my hands. Oh, my soul is tired, my heart is weak. I don't know what to do. But even now, through the breaking storm, jesus, I still call to you. Jesus. Jesus, don't let go Hold on hold on. I am broken, I am weary. Hold on hold on. If you hear me, lord, please save me. He is here, he is near. If you see me, lord, don't leave me. He is here. He is here, jesus. Jesus, take my hand, lift me up, help me stand. I can't carry this pain alone, jesus. Jesus laid my home. I'm still here.
