Speaker 1:

Hey you guys, welcome to Just the Two of Us. It is your broadcast host, mr Zach, so I want you to relax, put your feet up, grab you a glass of wine and a snack, because you are tuning into my broadcast. See you later.

Speaker 2:

It is your boy, Mr Zachary, on his one. This is two, and just welcome to just the two of us. I am sitting here. He is a motivational speaker, he's a songwriter and he's everything in between when you put different hats on. I am sitting here with Coach DC. Coach DC, how you doing. Coach DC, how you doing.

Speaker 3:

Hey, I'm here, you know, happy to be on this podcast to share my amazing stories with you and your audience, and my desire is that from this podcast, you and your audience will be inspired, be motivated and be educated for greater things to come.

Speaker 2:

And be educated for greater things to come. So the first question I would love to ask who always be the guest on here?

Speaker 3:

how is your mental health? That is something that is very important for me because in 2020, I went through a season. 2020 and 2021, I went through a season, and it's not mainly the pandemic, but there are things that I was going through that I didn't expect. So to be more detailed is that I met into a car accident with my wife, and that was October 2020. And I have never met into one car accident that serious. The car was hit off the road completely into a ditch, and I'm so happy to God for not making the car turn over. So the back of the car was in the ditch and the front of the car was pointing to the road and the other oh the other.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, yeah, man, serious accident, um, the earbud came out and all of that, and I was hit by a drunken driver and the drunken driver, his vehicle, went off the road completely, completely, and it is so, um, it's so, it's so I tell you just talking to you right now, just having flashback of how things happen, and and it is so amazing that this guy in his junking state came out of his vehicle that was totally off the road into the ditch and come and cussing me and my wife Like we were at fault.

Speaker 2:

We were the problem at fault, but you were drinking driving yeah.

Speaker 3:

And I just ignore him, because my wife was into a panic phase. She was shaking, shaking and just like how both of us are talking here. My wife, she couldn't talk a sentence clearly. The ambulance came and when the ambulance came we were at the spot for like over three hours. My wife couldn't say a statement clearly, Zachary, and from that accident that was October and I went into a stage where I only sleep probably three or four hours at night. Damn I was, I know that would. I only sleep probably two, three or four hours at night. Damn I was. What, what, what? I know that would yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

The rest of the night I was just up thinking, thinking, thinking. It's like, it's like a train that have the different um, um, um parts of the chain from one part to the next part. That's all my thinking. Just keep on going for the rest of the night.

Speaker 1:

Damn.

Speaker 2:

Well, you hear now four years, donovan. You hear now. I wouldn't even talk to you, but you hear now, by the grace of God. So let's get into. Who are you Like? Who is DC? Where did DC come from? Like where he's from, like what school? His growth?

Speaker 3:

right, let's talk about okay, so so, donovan kemball rdc, you said I'm a caribbean born person, um from jamaica. It's um to be exactly you know the country that the fastest man in the world is still from and the country that everybody know the artist. Art is for one love, one heart. Let's get together, you know. So I'm from that country and Jamaica, and a few years I came to Canada to live with my family here. So that's my background.

Speaker 2:

So let's talk about growing up in Jamaica. Let's talk about your childhood, growing up with your mom and dad, how you was with your family before you moved to Canada that's a good question.

Speaker 3:

Home will always be home for me. I mean, when I migrate from Jamaica to Canada, I mean back home. You know, I love to climb. I love to climb the apple tree, the mango trees, the acorn trees, the breadfruit trees, all these fruit trees, the acacia trees, the breadfruit trees.

Speaker 3:

All these fruit trees and I mean have this, this opportunity to do Whatever I want to do and to spend time with family and friends and so forth. Coming to Canada, it's a total different thing. Here in this, in this place, in this place that they call the first world type of country, totally I don't see no mango trees. I don't see no apple trees for me to climb. I don't see no breadfruit trees. I don't see certain things that I'm accustomed to in the Caribbean Everything you know you have to go to the store and buy and all of these things. I mean the climate is like the sea wave At this moment it's feeling nice and the next moment you wonder what's really happening outside. It's totally different.

Speaker 2:

So you had a culture. Start For sure, bro, for sure.

Speaker 3:

For sure, bro, for sure.

Speaker 2:

What was going through your head when you had that culture start?

Speaker 3:

I mean, canada is a beautiful country and I realized that every other nations are here, so Canada. Back home in Jamaicaica, the quota farm is out of many one people and um here in canada, I realized that, ah, it's a multicultural country and um I, because you know, back in the carib it's like you know, tourists come to Jamaica and so forth and you see different tourists and so forth being into Canada. I see every, every walks of life, people and um, you know, it's just a mixed culture, yeah, a mixed culture.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So for me, so a lot of people hold my lesson doing this. So I'm Gichigala, so I'm from like Charleston, south Carolina, so from here, from different people from Canberra, jamaica, like all over, all over the place. And they come from different places, and they come from Canada, north America, south America. It's like a whole different culture change. So I'd be surprised when every time I hear, oh, it's a culture change, it changed me. It's like it's out the norm. So moving into Canada. So how did you meet your wife?

Speaker 3:

okay. So that's a good question. Um, when I, how I came across my wife, I I wasn't I was single at the time um, never really interested into no relationship. I was brokenhearted, um, by previous relationship, probably twice. So I just feel like I just want to just be alone and just just spend time with god and find out what is my purpose and forget about this love relationship. So I used to have this um, um, um prior group thing and you know, spend some time with some church friends and so forth and just learn about the bible and god and all of these things. So I was introduced to my wife because they're saying you're such a nice guy and on some guy and this, and that you shouldn't be single and all of that so.

Speaker 3:

I was introduced to my girlfriend, to this girl who's my wife now, and at first, when I was introduced to her, I wasn't really all of that. So she came into the prior thing and so forth, the prior thing and so forth, and somehow, you know, I start to talk to our regular and so forth and the friendship um develop and it has grown, you know, to now she become my wife so how would you describe your wife?

Speaker 2:

in like three words huh, three words wow, oh, wow you just hit it.

Speaker 3:

You see the nail. Three words, wow, wow, you just hit the nail. You just hit the nail, my wife. I call her my package of Blessings. My package of Blessings, three words. That's what I call my wife, otherwise, um, you know, wifey or queen and so forth. I I tend to, I tend to call her my, my package of blessings more regular, because because my life has changed tremendously for greatness and I give God thanks to her.

Speaker 2:

That's why I said she's a package of blessings in my life from God. That's dope, that's dope, that's dope. So you have been a songwriter for over 25 years, a gospel music an artist, an author of three books you did your wife's book as well. So what inspired you to be a songwriter?

Speaker 3:

And do you remember your first song? But all I know is that the whole songwriting Start from me when I was going to High school. You know, being a young Christian Into an environment when I I see so much girls and I love the girls and I mean being a Christian I can't really tell the girls the things that I want to tell them, that I used to tell them.

Speaker 3:

I can't really pull them the way I used to pull them and you know, you know, give them a touch on certain areas and tell them how blessed they are you know, I can't do that, so, so, so the temptations were so real, bro, and and I, I get tested in and out and because I can't, I can't do certain things or say certain things. I tend to to write on paper, and that's where my writing skill develops. So I tend to like write a prayer on paper to god, you know, and that's where it all started for me and it lead to start to writing um, a chorus, how to write a verse, so I can write a full song, and that's where it all started over the years and that's how I developed and grown over the 25 years.

Speaker 2:

So what advice would you give somebody who just want to step inside this business of writing skill? What advice can you give somebody to start off?

Speaker 3:

That's a very good question. Thanks for asking that question.

Speaker 3:

Um wow, so because because, so persons, we can talk about that later on or even now, because, because, because I have I have my own page where I sell my products and I have my two music books there and also I just finished my first online music course a few days ago. So, yeah, I have things in place to start do some promotion for the online course in August coming. So if a person should go to my page, if a person should go and coach Donovan DC, they will see the link. But the link, the name of the site, is dc-digital-productscom. I will repeat dc-digital-productscom. I share my experiences over the 25 years, my experiences over the 25 years. Or I struggle, or I struggle to write a course, or I struggle to write a verse. And I make things so easy in these books and even the online course. I make it so easy that a five-year-old, or less than a five-year-old, can write a song to the oldest person in this world that I don't know. I don't know they can write a song easy, like that.

Speaker 2:

So do you think writing a song is easy nowadays, days, with technology?

Speaker 3:

oh, you think we should not depend on technology and we should use our own, you know our own way um, both of them have their benefits, but for me personally, I love the old school way because for me when I write song um in my, in my notepad or on paper, I tend to flow more, better, I tend to express, because songwriting is all about expression of your mind your heart and feelings.

Speaker 3:

And for me, that's how I keep doing it over the years, recording different songs or collaborating. It's all about expression of the mind, the heart and your feelings, and a song is a storytelling, Every song that we listen to every genre of music, there's a story that comes from that song, every artist. They're telling a story. It doesn't matter whether it's a high beat. Definitely definitely or the country western or the jazz or the pop part. You name the different genre. It's all telling a story.

Speaker 2:

It's all telling a story so what is your favorite thing to write about? Like what? What motivates you? Like to write more and be like oh, let me write more about this than that.

Speaker 3:

Honestly, for me. I I love to just I guess it's a blessing I easily be inspired, so I don't have, like um a specific thing to write and I just write. I just write my own story, my own feelings, into song and I, my song, is all about um motivation and education. That's me, and that's the same thing I bring into my products and my service that I am offering to people. I want to just inspire people, motivate people, educate people. That's it For me. I'm not into the hypeness and showing off things. I'm not that type of person.

Speaker 2:

You are easy to talk to. To be honest with you, most people are not easy to talk to, but easy to talk to. So why is it important to motivate yourself and to motivate other people? Why do you think people should be motivated of doing what they love to do? Because, as you look at today's society, a lot of people are not motivated or aspired or even educated on certain things that they love to do. So why it is so important to be motivated in yourself before others that's a very good question.

Speaker 3:

Thanks for asking that, because for me, I never see myself as a gospel artist. I never see myself being an author of three books. I never see myself being this person who going into be a full-time entrepreneur. I never see myself as that.

Speaker 3:

But as I grow and I develop, as I say for me, everything in life this is a quote that I positive thought myself, because I positive thought myself every day and every night to be positive and I tell myself that everything in life is a process with a plan in action. I'm getting into the motivational aspect of me now. Let me repeat so, your motivational aspect of me. Now Let me repeat so your audience can get me clear.

Speaker 2:

Clear from the back.

Speaker 3:

The back, they hear Everything in life. It is a process with a plan in action.

Speaker 1:

We're going to let that sink in just a few minutes. Let it sink.

Speaker 2:

Let it sink in a few minutes. Because why is it so important to have a plan, to have action?

Speaker 3:

As I said before, I've never seen myself being a gospel artist, and being an authentic gospel artist too. I write my own songs, sing my own songs. I don't sing and record an ex-person song. I write my own story, share my own story. The process that I went through Wow. The process that I went through wow. I want to stick to the word process for a bit, because the blessings that I have received by going through the process have helped me to be this person that you are talking to today. So there are blessings in the process, there are lessons in the process.

Speaker 1:

Let me repeat.

Speaker 3:

There are blessings in the process and there are lessons in the process. A lot of people. What I've discovered is that they want to rush the process. That part as before. I'm from the Caribbean, so I'm going to talk Caribbean language. I love to do plants. I am do planting. We don't plant a seed Today and tomorrow it becomes a productive tree. We go through a process Of development In the soil Before it starts to shoot up Out of the soil.

Speaker 2:

Why do you think people want to rush and try to find, like fast result and not take your time and let it process and, like you said, process becomes blessings and the process comes lessons. Why do you think people want to rush the process?

Speaker 3:

um, I think I think the reason why is because people don't want to go through the process. It's just like I'm not bashing fast food restaurants. You know KFC and Burger. They have their purpose, but there are some persons they don't want to spend time in the kitchen. They just want to just already think they don't want to spend time in the kitchen. They just want to just already think they don't want to learn how to cook and learn to develop their skills while spending time quality time in the kitchen.

Speaker 3:

learn how to cook this and to cook that they just want to just keep going to the fast food restaurants and and it's have its purpose. But we know that some of these persons who keep living in fast food restaurants.

Speaker 3:

That's the way they are. They are, they are beyond their size. No disrespect, but is I'm just keeping it real, bro? Yeah, just keep it real. Keeping it real so People need to To really Go through the process, get the blessings in the process, get the lessons in the process so they can be A better person In life. And going through the process it will equip us as people, to be more effective and to be more productive.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's deep. You said and let's talk about that piece right there like the lessons in the process, Because a lot of people realize that you do have failures in the process, you do have hiccups, you do have trial runs, you do have like certain things will test you to be a better person today. So how did you face those? Number one, what was the failures that you faced during the process and how did you overcome it during the process?

Speaker 3:

Good question. As I said before, I am a positive person. I keep a positive mindset at all times, even though the reality is, I mean, if the wind blows, definitely I will feel the wind. So it's both negative or positive. That happen on day in, day out, night, whatever, but I stick to the positive side but I stick to the positive side.

Speaker 3:

One of the things that I, before I answer the question, one of the things that I use as a motivation for me, is that I don't remember the person who is the first person who to create a light bulb. He failed a thousand times trying to make that light bulb work one thousand times and one thousand and one time he make it happen. That speaks high volume for me. One time he make it happen, that speaks high volume for me, it does. And Because of that Person Experience Trying one, trying to get one thing work For a thousand times that means he has failed one thousand times. But he keeps learning and learning and trying to do something different until he gets it right.

Speaker 3:

And when he gets it right the first time, that's where these different light bulbs and all of these things come to but the person who is the first person to create a light bulb failed 1,000 times trying to make this bulb work, but he didn't give up. He got it right at 1,001 times. That's up. He got it right at 1,001 time. That's some of the deep stuff right there.

Speaker 2:

Damn, because a lot of people don't know. You have to keep going. You have to keep going. You're going to mess up a few times and those moments when you mess up, keep going, because the more you mess up, eventually it's going to be correctly. You just got to change what you're doing, think of a different plan or start over from scratch if it didn't work for you.

Speaker 2:

And that's why a lot of people just like you that stays positive and keep going, because we need those people to be in the front lines of those people who feel lonely, who feel left out, who's not motivated, who do not want a purpose in this world. And so we have to realize that when you have a life coach as well, and when you're a motorbike guy, you have to keep people going throughout life, because life is rough, life is tough, life will throw you in a tornado and you don't know where you will end up at.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, so go ahead that yeah, so I agree with you 100% about everything that you have said and that's why, otherwise, from that being a positive person, I have my support system.

Speaker 3:

I have my support system I have my wife and we have our two-year-old son. He's an inspiration to me. I have that small circle of support system where these persons motivate me, they encourage me, they pray for me. So that helped me also to identify my purpose, know my purpose and live a purposeful life and a meaningful life. So, just to add to what you said, the support system also have helped me and persons need to have that support system Too, because you need to have that person. You need to have that person who will see Greatness in you that you yourself don't see and you are saying, oh no, I can't do this, I'm going to fail, and this and that and that and the person your support system Can see greatness in you that you don't see. And if you could just listen to your support system and follow your support system, trust me, I mean greatness would be reality.

Speaker 2:

Look, how many things will you accomplish if you keep going. Like, if you keep going and, like I said, life's going to be rough, but also life come with good memories and good experience. Like, if you keep going, I'm telling you, you will find you. You will find your itch, you will find your support, you will find someone who is very important to you Like, you will find a lot of things in life that you didn't respect, like five or ten years ago. But look at you now.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I agree with you a thousand percent on that, and one of the things that come to my mind also is that what I discover about myself and what I see happen, even within my support system and people in general before I go there. What I have seen is that, to add to what you said, a good, a calm sea can never make a good sailor. I'm going to repeat, and let it sink for a while A calm sea cannot make a good sailor. Let that sink for a while.

Speaker 2:

Those who get it?

Speaker 3:

And what I've discovered about myself over the years. And I discovered in people and I give God thanks also for this co-worker of mine that I've met a few years ago and what he said to me. I even made sure that I have it at the back of the first book I have written with my wife, of the first book I have written With my wife. He said to me that, donovan, if you desire To be successful in life, you have to do and comfortable things To be successful. I know I'm dropping Some bomb here, but I'm keeping it. Real Is what this guy has said to me. And when he said that statement to me, I'm like my it's like he turned on a light bulb in my brain. I'm like what? I look at this bulb from 100 different angles.

Speaker 3:

Donovan, you desire to be successful, you have to do uncomfortable things, and what I've discovered is that about myself and people in general. We love our comfort zone. We don't want to come out of our comfort zone. That part we want to achieve things in life and stay in comfort zone. No, you got to get out of your comfort zone, get out of it. We have to get out of our comfort zone to get it.

Speaker 2:

Because that comfort zone is like so cozy and so you got to shake it up and you can't be in the same place that you are it's because I'm speaking from my own experience, bro.

Speaker 3:

I mean, I told you man songs. I mean my I can't remember my my, my road writing my, my first music book. It takes me four months to accomplish that book and I determined that I'm going to do this. After I published the first book, with my wife, I said I need to go and write a book on my own and I pushed myself out of my comfort zone to go for a second. I pushed again, go for a third. And, bro, as I said before, I just finished my first online course. Bro, I didn't see this a few years ago, me being a course creator.

Speaker 3:

And it's all because I keep out of my comfort zone. Being creative, think outside of the box and do things outside of the box. Bro, that's. I'm humbled.

Speaker 3:

I'm humbled and excited To share my story with you and your audience, bro. But the comfort zone, the comfort zone for me, the comfort zone Is prison cell, comfort zone For my future, for me to be successful and be progressive and to be all of that. If I stay In my comfort zone Cell, prison cell I'm not going to be that person that I desire to be. I'm not going to be that best version of me and that's what I am working on the best version of me. Be more valuable, be more effective, be more zealous. Be more valuable, be more effective, be more.

Speaker 2:

Exactly.

Speaker 3:

But if I stay in my comfort zone, not gonna be. And if your audience and if your audience, your audience, your loving audience that is listening to you all over the world. I'm encouraging you as you listen to my story sharing with Zachary and this podcast. I'm telling you, please stay out of your comfort zone To be this progressive person that you desire to be and successful person, to live a meaningful life, a progressive life. Stay outside of your comfort zone, stay outside of your box, stay outside of it. That's where you're going to.

Speaker 3:

that's where, that's where that's where the miracle is going to pop up in your life, that's where your mind going to blow, and I do want to say wow really, yes, wow, really. That's where your mind gonna blow and I'm gonna say wow really, yes, wow really, because stay outside of your comfort box zone damn, and on that note, we're gonna leave it like it is on that note and I'm just saying and those who get it get it, and those it's for, it's for you.

Speaker 2:

So I have my final question for you. I asked all, all my guest people this question if there was your final last words, this is your final touch on everything during life. What do you individually want to be a member for?

Speaker 3:

That's a very good question. Thanks for asking me, zach, you're welcome.

Speaker 1:

I have a question.

Speaker 3:

I want to be known by people worldwide that Donovan Campbell desire good things for people. I want to be known as someone who helps people to move from nothing to be something. I want to be known for a person down in the valley and I've helped them to be On the mountain tops of their life. I want to be known as a positive Influencer To people, and the reason why I said all of that Is because there are more to people than their problems, their phone bill, their light bill, their mortgage. There's more inside, inside of you. There's more inside of you to realize and to develop and to grow. There's more Damn.

Speaker 2:
